Movers Bermondsey Health and Safety Policy
Movers Bermondsey is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, subcontractors, customers, and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation activities. This Health and Safety Policy outlines our approach to managing risks associated with household and commercial removals, transport, loading and unloading, and storage-related work.
Policy Aims and Objectives
The aim of this policy is to prevent accidents, injuries, ill health, and damage to property arising from our operations. We will identify, assess, and control risks related to manual handling, vehicle movements, use of equipment, and work at customers premises. Our objectives are to comply with applicable health and safety legislation, promote safe systems of work, and continuously improve our performance.
Management Responsibilities
The management of Movers Bermondsey has overall responsibility for establishing, implementing, and maintaining effective health and safety arrangements. Managers will provide leadership in safety matters, ensure that appropriate resources are available, and regularly review procedures to keep them relevant to our services and operating areas. They will ensure that employees receive suitable information, instruction, and training, and that any accidents, incidents, or near misses are investigated and acted upon.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Staff must follow safety instructions, use equipment correctly, and cooperate with all safety procedures and training. Employees are responsible for reporting hazards, defects, unsafe practices, or any incident that results in, or could result in, injury or damage. Deliberate disregard of safety procedures may result in disciplinary action.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Movers Bermondsey will carry out risk assessments for typical removal activities, including lifting and carrying, packing, loading and unloading vehicles, driving, and working in and around customer properties. Where specific or unusual risks are identified, additional site-specific assessments will be undertaken. Control measures may include the use of mechanical aids, team lifting, route planning, and restrictions on certain tasks where necessary. Safe systems of work will be developed, communicated to staff, and periodically reviewed in light of operational experience and changes to legislation or best practice.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
As manual handling is central to removal services, we place strong emphasis on safe lifting techniques. Employees will be trained to assess loads, plan lifts, and avoid hazardous movements or overexertion. Where practicable, trolleys, dollies, straps, and other handling aids will be used to minimise the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. Equipment and tools used in our operations, such as lifting gear and securing devices, will be maintained in good condition and used only for their intended purpose by trained personnel.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Our vehicles are critical to the safe delivery of removal services. Movers Bermondsey will ensure that vehicles are regularly inspected, serviced, and maintained to a safe standard. Drivers must hold the appropriate licences, comply with road traffic laws, and follow company rules for safe driving, including adherence to speed limits, avoidance of mobile phone use while driving, and proper securing of loads. Before setting off, drivers must check that loads are stable, evenly distributed, and adequately restrained to prevent movement during transit.
Safety at Customer Premises
Our teams frequently work in a variety of environments, including homes, offices, and commercial premises. On arrival, staff will take account of any specific hazards such as narrow stairways, uneven surfaces, low ceilings, restricted access, and shared public areas. When necessary, protective coverings may be used to reduce slip and trip risks, and suitable warning signs may be deployed. Employees will act with care to protect both people and property, including belongings, fixtures, and fittings, throughout the removal process.
Health, Welfare, and Fitness for Work
Movers Bermondsey recognises that the physical nature of removal work can be demanding. We will encourage staff to maintain good physical health, use correct lifting techniques, and take appropriate rest breaks. Employees must not report for duty under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that could impair their ability to work safely. Any employee who is unfit or unsure about their fitness for specific tasks must inform their manager so that suitable adjustments or alternative duties can be considered.
Training, Information, and Supervision
We will provide all employees with appropriate induction training covering our health and safety procedures, emergency arrangements, and safe working practices. Additional training will be given in areas such as manual handling, vehicle safety, and the correct use of equipment as required by their role. Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for monitoring working practices on site, offering guidance, and ensuring that agreed safety standards are followed consistently.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, and near misses that occur during our operations must be reported and recorded. Investigations will be carried out to determine causes and implement measures to prevent recurrence. Emergency procedures will be in place for dealing with injuries, fire, vehicle incidents, and other unexpected events. Employees must familiarise themselves with these procedures and follow instructions given by supervisors or emergency services.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
Movers Bermondsey is committed to consulting with employees on health and safety matters and encouraging feedback on how our procedures operate in practice. Where improvements are identified, policies and procedures will be updated and communicated to all relevant staff. Regular reviews of this Health and Safety Policy will be carried out to ensure that it remains effective, proportionate, and aligned with legal requirements and industry best practice.
Policy Review and Approval
This Health and Safety Policy is approved by the management of Movers Bermondsey and applies to all aspects of our removal and related services. It will be reviewed periodically, and whenever there are significant changes to our operations or relevant legislation, to ensure that it continues to reflect our commitment to safeguarding the health, safety, and welfare of everyone affected by our work.
